  Stuttgart and the rice country around it. Flooded rice and reservoirs feed enormous numbers of mallards once the fields go under.

• Cache and White River Bottoms

  Green timber along the Cache, Black and upper White. Ducks work the flooded oaks when the water is right and the acorn crop cooperates.

• Mississippi Delta

  Helena up through Crowley's Ridge and the river itself. Big-river birds trading between sandbars, oxbows and cut grain.

• Northeast Delta

  Big Lake, the St. Francis basin and the rice ground around Jonesboro. First Arkansas dirt a bird crosses coming down the flyway.

• Southeast Delta

  White River bottoms, Arkansas Post and the oxbows down to Chicot. Deep timber and big water that hold birds through hard weather.

• Arkansas River Valley

  Dardanelle and the Holla Bend country. A narrower corridor than the delta, but the river pool holds ducks when small water locks up.

• Central Arkansas

  Little Rock out to the lakes west of it. Mostly a drive-through on the way to the Grand Prairie, with scattered small-water hunts.

• South Arkansas

  Millwood, the Red River bottoms and the pine belt across to Felsenthal. Fewer birds than the delta, and far fewer hunters.

• Ozarks and Ouachitas

  Mountain country. Beaver, Bull Shoals and Ouachita hold some divers and a few mallards on the upper White, but this is not duck ground.
