Help with DuckCast

Almost certainly not. Outside the migration window there is no migration to report, so the honest answer is a low number. DuckCast says so rather than inventing excitement.

Either way it loads an actual cold-front scenario fitted to each state's own season, with scores, radar and outlooks populated.

It decodes public NOAA NEXRAD radar and reads what was in the air over your region after sunset last night: how much bird mass lifted off, which way it tracked, and how fast it flew under its own power once the wind at flight altitude is subtracted out. Bugs drift with the wind. Birds fly through it.

Its job is to confirm or contradict the forecast. Hunter reports do that too, and they are 12% of every score, but they need somebody to have been out there. The radar watches the whole region every night either way.

No, and it never will. Radar is species-blind. On a fall night most of the biomass aloft is songbirds, not waterfowl. Read it as proof that a migration happened, not as a count of ducks. Any number the radar card shows is about movement, never about how many birds are in your area.

Privacy first: exact hunting locations are never collected or shown, so nobody burns your spot. Biology second: migrating flocks ride weather systems that span whole counties. A regional score tells you when birds are moving through your area. Finding the X is still your job.

Tell us, because that is the most useful message we get. Open the region, tap Why This Score Is Moving, and see which of the eight factors is driving it. If the model is arguing with your own eyes, your eyes are the better instrument and we want the correction.

Upstream conditions are watched for each one: prairie Canada for North Dakota; the middle flyway states for Arkansas; the Illinois River valley and the Missouri River through western Iowa for Missouri; North Dakota for South Dakota; South Dakota for Nebraska; Nebraska for Kansas; the Arkansas Delta and west Tennessee for Mississippi; the lower valley for Louisiana; Kansas and the southern plains for Oklahoma; Oklahoma and the southern plains for Texas. The icon changes to match the theme, so it is a moon before you tap it. Blind turns everything amber on black for a dark blind before legal light.
